1 Fix a common problem
Tap what's happening. Try the checks – most problems are fixed in a few minutes.
Always switch off, remove the key or unplug, and wait for every part to stop before you open, clear or adjust the machine.
1It won't start
Try this first:
- Petrol/diesel: check there is fuel and that the fuel tap is open.
- Check the engine oil level – many engines will not start when the oil is low.
- Petrol: use the choke on a cold engine and check the engine switch is ON.
- Electric: check the plug, the isolator switch and the circuit breaker at the board.

2Tines get clogged
Try this first:
- Switch off and clear grass, roots and wire from the tines.
- Till when the soil is moist, not wet or rock-hard.

Try this first:
- Make a shallow first pass, then go deeper on the second pass.
