1 Fix a common problem

Tap what's happening. Try the checks – most problems are fixed in a few minutes.

Always switch off, remove the key or unplug, and wait for every part to stop before you open, clear or adjust the machine.
1It won't start

Try this first:

  • Petrol/diesel: check there is fuel and that the fuel tap is open.
  • Check the engine oil level – many engines will not start when the oil is low.
  • Petrol: use the choke on a cold engine and check the engine switch is ON.
  • Electric: check the plug, the isolator switch and the circuit breaker at the board.

2Grain is left on the heads / cobs

Try this first:

  • Feed more slowly so each head is threshed properly.
  • Make sure the crop is dry enough.
  • Check the engine is at full working speed.

3Too much chaff in the grain

Try this first:

  • Adjust the blower vent to give more air.
